On September 2, India is set to face Pakistan in the Asia Cup 2023 at Pallekele, commencing at 3 pm IST. This crucial match marks the third encounter of the tournament and is the second game within Group A.
The Asia Cup 2023 is a unique hybrid event hosted in Pakistan and Sri Lanka, featuring four matches in Pakistan and nine, including the final, in Sri Lanka. This tournament spans from August 30 to September 13.
India’s team preparations have been extensive, with several senior players having rested and some recovering from injuries. The BCCI has assembled an 18-member squad, with Sanju Samson as the traveling reserve and Rohit Sharma as the captain.
Injured players like KL Rahul and Shreyas Iyer are expected to return to the playing XI against Pakistan. The return of Rohit Sharma and Virat Kohli further strengthens the batting lineup, providing a significant boost after their rest periods, which coincided with India’s T20I series against West Indies and Ireland.
Jasprit Bumrah, who has regained fitness, leads the bowling attack, with Prasidh Krishna making a comeback after an extended injury layoff. The presence of Mohammed Shami and Mohd Siraj adds variety to the bowling attack, while Kuldeep Yadav serves as the specialist spinner.
With a full-strength squad at their disposal, India faces the challenge of selecting the best XI, considering the playing conditions they will encounter. The spotlight will be on the battle between India’s batsmen and Pakistan’s pacers.
However, it’s worth noting that there are reports suggesting an 80 percent chance of rain in Pallekele, Kandy, on September 2, potentially affecting the match.
