Since the announcement of the schedule for the 2023 World Cup, the India-Pakistan clash has garnered significant attention. The highly anticipated match will take place on October 15 at Ahmedabad’s Narendra Modi Stadium.
As the two archrivals only face each other in international tournaments, their matches become major events on the global sporting calendar, attracting billions of viewers.
The 2019 World Cup encounter between India and Pakistan alone drew 273 million viewers, making it a lucrative spectacle for broadcasters. Chris Gayle, the West Indies cricket legend, believes that the India-Pakistan rivalry is even bigger than the Ashes, highlighting its immense popularity and global viewership.

When asked about the key players who can make a difference for India in the World Cup, Gayle mentioned Jasprit Bumrah and Suryakumar Yadav as crucial contributors. He expressed confidence in Bumrah’s return to form and identified him as a key player, alongside Suryakumar.
It’s worth noting that India and Pakistan have not engaged in a bilateral series on each other’s soil since 2012, and their last Test match was in 2007. However, they continue to compete in shorter formats of the game.
India’s last ODI World Cup victory came in 2011 when they triumphed on home soil. Since then, Australia and England have clinched the title in their respective countries in 2015 and 2019.
