The World Test Championship final is fast approaching, with Australia already securing their place in the highly anticipated match at The Oval in June. But with only one spot remaining, India and Sri Lanka are locked in a battle for the second spot.
India’s hopes of qualifying for the WTC 2023 final took a hit after their defeat to Australia in Indore, leaving them needing a win against the Aussies in the final Test of the series, starting on Thursday, March 9, at the Narendra Modi Stadium in Ahmedabad.

A victory in Ahmedabad, regardless of the margin, will secure India’s qualification for the WTC final against Australia. Despite their recent loss, India’s points percentage (PCT) stands at 60.29, and a win in Ahmedabad will see it rise to 62.5, which is enough to qualify for the final.
However, if India lose or even draw the fourth Test, there is still a chance for them to qualify for the final, but they would have to depend on Sri Lanka. Sri Lanka would have to beat New Zealand 2-0 in the two-match Test series to eliminate India from the WTC final race. But with the Kiwis being a tough team to beat at home, the Lankans will have their work cut out for them.
India has previously made it to the WTC final but lost to New Zealand in Southampton in June 2021. This year, a new Test champion will be crowned as the Kiwis failed to qualify for the ongoing World Test Championship.
The question now is, can India make it to the WTC final against Australia, or will Sri Lanka spoil their chances? All eyes will be on the final Test of the Border-Gavaskar Trophy as the two teams battle it out for a spot in the WTC final.
