India’s Probable Squad for ICC ODI World Cup 2023

Openers: Rohit Sharma, Shubman Gill, Ishan Kishan

The opening combination for India will feature skipper Rohit Sharma alongside the promising young talent, Shubman Gill. Having emerged as a dependable choice after Shikhar Dhawan’s departure, Gill’s consistency has solidified his position in the ODI squad. Joining them is the dynamic left-handed batter, Ishan Kishan, who also serves as the backup wicketkeeper. Kishan showcased his skills in the recent ODI series against West Indies, contributing to India’s series victory.

Batters: Virat Kohli, Shreyas Iyer, KL Rahul, Tilak Varma

The crucial number three spot will be occupied by former captain Virat Kohli, known for his imposing batting prowess. Expected to follow are Shreyas Iyer and KL Rahul at positions four and five, respectively, both known for their exceptional records in those slots. While Rahul’s participation is anticipated in the Asia Cup, Iyer’s return from a back injury remains uncertain. Should Iyer not recover in time, the emerging talent Tilak Varma could step in as the replacement of Shreyas Iyer. Additionally, the consistent performances of Suryakumar Yadav make him a strong contender for a spot in the final 15.

All-Rounders: Hardik Pandya, Ravindra Jadeja, Axar Patel

The experienced duo of Hardik Pandya and Ravindra Jadeja are certain to occupy pivotal roles in the playing XI. Alongside them, Axar Patel will serve as the backup all-rounder. This trio brings a balanced combination of batting and bowling skills. Pandya is expected to bat at number six, while Jadeja will hold the number seven position. Patel’s versatility could see him filling in for Jadeja or adding depth to the spin attack as a third spinner when needed.

Bowlers: Kuldeep Yadav, Jasprit Bumrah, Shardul Thakur, Mohammed Siraj, Mohammed Shami

Kuldeep Yadav is likely to lead India’s spin bowling, supported by Jadeja and Patel. Shardul Thakur will be positioned at number eight, known for his knack of taking wickets and valuable lower-order contributions with the bat. The seam attack will be spearheaded by the formidable Jasprit Bumrah and Mohammed Siraj, with Mohammed Shami serving as the backup seamer.
