IPL 2022, CSK VS SRH: Sunrisers beat Chennai by 8 wickets

CSK vs SRH at DY Patil Stadium in Mumbai saw Hyderabad dominating the four-time champions easily and finally securing the first win for them in the tournament.

CSK lost the toss and was invited to bat first in the game by Kane Williamson. Chennai could only manage 154/7 in their 20 overs which Hyderabad, with more than 2 overs, quickly chased to spare.

CSK Innings

Chennai had a slow start with Uthappa and Gaikwad, not able to pierce the gaps in the field. Uthappa was the first one to be sent back to the pavilion. He scored 15 off 11 before Washington Sundar dismissed him.

Gaikwad soon followed his partner in the dugout when Natrajan bowled a blistering yorker to find the gap between his bat and pad. CSK was reduced to 36/1 in 5.1 overs and needed a big partnership to consolidate the inning.

Rayudu and Moeen Ali shouldered the responsibility and formed a 62 run partnership for the third wicket. However, they failed to up the run rate in their stand, and when Rayudu got dismissed for run a ball 27, CSK was struggling at 98/3 in 13.3 overs.

Soon CSK suffered a collapse, and the team found themselves in a world of trouble. Moeen Ali scored 48 off 35, and Dube and Dhoni followed him in the dressing room without contributing much. Jadeja and Bravo’s few hits propelled CSK to a respectable 154/7 in the 20 overs.

SRH Innings

Chasing 155, SRH had a handsome partnership at the top that took the game away from CSK. The openers forged an 89 run stand for the first wicket in 12 overs to put SRH on top of the match.

Kane Williamson scored 32 off 40 before hitting a ball straight to Moeen Ali at covers. Abhishek Sharma scored 75 off 50, including 5 fours and 3 sixes, to announce his arrival in style in Tata IPL 2022.

Rahul Tripathi also returned to form with a blazing 39 off 15, consisting of 5 fours and 2 two massive sixes. SRH chased the target with 16 balls to spare to register their first win of Tata IPL 2022.
