DC vs RCB, the 27th match of Tata IPL 2022, was all about the continuance of Dinesh Karthik’s resurgence in the T20 format.
Karthik pulled out RCB from a precarious situation of 92/5 to help them score 189 in 20 overs. Shahbaz Ahmed also impressed with his unbeaten knock of 32*.
DC vs RCB Highlights:
Rishabh Pant won the toss and decided to bowl first due to the dryness of the pitch.
RCB Inning:
RCB could not get a royal start because Faf du Plessis and Anuj Rawat were sent back to the pavilion before reaching the double figures.
Glenn Maxwell came out with positive intent and formed a partnership with Virat Kolhi to counterattack Delhi’s bowling unit. The duo were doing an excellent job before Kohli was found short of his crease by Lalit Yadav due to a miscommunication between Maxwell and him.
However, Maxwell continued his assault and reached his half-century only to get dismissed by Kuldeep Yadav at 55. Maxwell’s inning included 5 fours and 2 sixes. Suyash Prabhudessai also got dismissed while trying to reverse sweep Axar Patel.
This led Karthik and Shahbaz to construct another partnership that saved Royal Challengers. It looked like Bangalore would get somewhere around 160 at the most, but Karthik had other plans.
Dinesh Karthik smashed Mustafizur Rahman for 28 runs in the 18th over to sway the momentum on RCB’s side. He scored an unbeaten 66* off 34, including 5 fours and 5 sixes. Shahbaz also played a handy knock of 32* off 21. RCB posted 189/5 in the DC vs RCB clash.
DC Inning:
Delhi Capitals had a fine start, with Shaw and Warner decimating the RCB bowling line-up in the first 6 overs. However, following powerplay, RCB bowled in the right areas to restrict the scoring rate and pile pressure.
Prithvi Shaw mistimed a pull of Mohammed Siraj’s bowling to hand RCB their first breakthrough. Mitchell Marsh had a horrible first game in IPL 2022, and his inning was probably the reason behind DC’s loss.
Warner, who was playing freely before Shaw’s wicket, had pressure piled upon him due to Marsh’s slow inning. He tried to reverse sweeping Hasaranga only to get dismissed in the process. David Warner scored 66 off 38, comprising of 4 fours and 5 sixes.
Rishabh Pant showed a glimmer of an extravagant knock but could not fulfil his potential as he was dismissed on 34 off 17 by Mohammed Siraj. Ultimately Delhi fell short by 16 runs in the DC vs RCB contest.
