Delhi Capitals retained 4 players and entered the mega auction with the lowest budget 47.5 crores. It was tough to compete with other teams for Delhi Capitals to build a brawny possible playing X1.
Delhi capitals were clear with their approach for players and all their buys were within the budget except Shardul Thakur for 10.75 crores. The squad looks sensational on papers whereas Delhi Capitals possible playing X1 looks superlative too.
Before moving to the playing X1 team, let’s have a look at players bought by Delhi Capitals in the IPL mega auction 2022.

Delhi Capitals Starting Playing XI Line-Up
1) David Warner
David Warner went through a rough phase in IPL 2021 where he was sacked from captaincy and further dropped as well. However, Warner redeemed himself in the T20 World Cup 2021 where he was adjourned player of the tournament for being the highest run-scorer. The Aussie fetched 6.25 crores and would ideally fit in the top order role for Delhi capitals. A 140 strike rate and average above 40 is astounding.
2) Prithvi Shaw
Prithvi Shaw was retained by Delhi Capitals for 7.5 crores. They showed faith in his power-hitting ability to retain him over Shikhar Dhawan. He was also the second-highest run-scorer for the franchise in IPL 2021. Without a doubt, he would be opening the innings along with David Warner as his companion.
3) Mitchell Marsh
Mitchell Marsh was unforgettable due to his innings against New Zealand in the finals, where he accumulated 77 runs which helped Australia lift the trophy. Delhi Capitals couldn’t hold on to their star all-rounder Marcus Stoinis. Nevertheless, they got a like for like replacement fat 6.5crores.
4) Rishabh Pant (C & WK)
Rishabh Pant who led the team in IPL 2021 in the absence of Shreyas Iyer, was also allowed to continue with the role even after Shreyas Iyer’s comeback. The wicket-keeper batter did a noteworthy job except for the playoffs where he took some decisions which didn’t favor him. We expect Rishabh Pant at no.4 to hit those one-handed sixes against the bowlers.
5) Yash Dhull
The U-19 winning captain got a 50lakhs bid from Delhi Capitals. Yash Dhull continues his exceptional run in his maiden Ranji Trophy season, where he has already scored a double century and two centuries merely in 6 innings. The young batter has the potential to perform and has shown a hunger for runs.
6) Rovman Powell
Rovman Powell notched up his maiden T20i century weeks before the IPL mega auction that assisted him to grab the limelight. The West Indian bowler can also swing his arms for a medium pace in middle over. Thus, leading to team balance and providing alternatives to Rishabh Pant in bowling.
7) Axar Patel
Axar Patel was one of the retained players by Delhi capitals for their core strength. The left-arm bowling all-rounder was a public eye throughout the 2021 year. He debuted for India in the test match where he has so far picked 37 wickets in 10 test matches. In addition, he has an economy of nearly 7.2 which makes him an efficient choice for the playing X1 squad.
8) Shardul Thakur
Shardul Thakur or Lord Thakur- the cynosure of all eyes for his batting. The versatile bowler can bat down the order and has even showcased his batting skills on the international stage against West Indies. Batters haven’t been able to read his knuckleball effectively which makes him an economical bowler at death. Undoubtedly, he will be in Delhi Capitals playing X1.
9) Kuldeep Yadav
The left-arm chinaman is going through a downfall in his career both at the international and domestic levels. He has been in & out of the team constantly due to his poor performances. However, we think Rishabh Pant will show immense faith in him for his talent.
10) Chetan Sakariya
Chetan Sakariya had a memorable 1st season of IPL as a player for Rajasthan Royals. He picked up 14 wickets in as many matches. He got 4.2 crores deal from Delhi Capitals on that basis. Chetan Sakariya could be in the playing X1 ahead of Khaleel Ahmed.
11) Anrich Nortje
Delhi Capitals retained Anrich Nortje ahead of Kagiso Rabada who was associated with the franchise before him. The speedster can constantly bowl 150+KMPH speed to trouble the batters. His accounts spell as 34 wickets in 24 IPL games with an economy of around 7.5. We would probably witness his fiery pace again in this IPL.
This is the finest Delhi Capitals playing X1 according to us. However, if Anrich Nortje is unable to play this year then it would be a huge blow for Delhi Capitals and we can expect Lungi Ngidi in place of him.
