LSG vs KKR was a run-fest in which 418 runs were scored. Quinton de Kock wonderfully accelerated his inning to score an unbeaten 140*off 70, including 10 fours and 10 towering sixes.
The opening pair of Quinton and KL Rahul remained unbeaten till the end and scored the highest ever opening partnership in the history of IPL. The duo put up a stand of 210 runs.
In reply, KKR chased valiantly but looked in trouble after the dismissal of Shreyas Iyer and Sam Billings. The match was completely out of their grasp until Rinku Singh, and Sunil Narine partnered to put the fear in LSG bowlers.
Rinku, in particular, was highly impressive as he almost snatched the game from the jaws of Super Giants.
Twenty-one runs were needed off the last over with Rinku Singh on strike. The left-hander smashed the first ball for four and followed two deliveries for sixes to reduce the equation in Knight Riders’ favour.
However, he was caught out on the 5th ball, and Umesh Yadav was bowled on the final ball by Marcus Stoinis to mark the 9th victory for LSG in the tournament.
With this loss, KKR has been eliminated from the race of the playoffs, while LSG has ensured their entry into the qualifiers.
If Rajasthan Royals lose their last group stage, then LSG will play the first qualifier against Gujarat Titans in Kolkata.
