Sunrisers Hyderabad had lost their first match of the tournament by a huge margin of 61 runs against Rajasthan Royals. Famous for their bowling in the previous few seasons of IPL, SRH lacked that precision and persistence with the ball against RR in their first encounter at Tata IPL 2022. barring Imran Malik, every other bowler from SRH seemed ordinary versus RR batters. Their batting was also a disappointment as one from the top-four could fire while chasing the huge target.
Only Washington Sundar and Aiden Markram emerged as positive for SRH versus RR. However, Sundar is batting much lower in the batting order than one would expect him to. SRH can maximise his potential if he is brought up the order, but it remains to be seen whether the think-tank for SRH agrees with it. SRH will need its captain Kane Williamson to fire in the 2nd match and the experienced campaigner Bhuvneshwar Kumar to lead the attack if they want to have a chance at defeating red-hot LSG.
Lucknow Super Giants have come back hard to register an encouraging victory against Chennai Super Kings. They lost their first match against Gujarat due to their batters being unable to fire. However, they chased down 210 against CSK to prove how good a batting line-up they harbour. Almost everyone from the LSG batting unit has attained top form, but Evin Lewis, Deepak Hooda and the young sensation Ayush Badoni are in a league of their own at the moment.
LSG’s middle-order is quite assuring, but their problems lie in the bowling unit. With Mark Wood being unable to take part in the tournament due to an elbow injury, their bowling line-up lacks a strike bowler that can take up wickets at crucial junctures. LSG will need to somehow make the best of its resources to keep moving forward in the tournament.
