IPL 2023 is set to begin on 31 March 2023 with a clash between defending champions Gujarat Titans and Chennai Super Kings in Ahmedabad.
While many teams acquired the best players in the Auction which was held last year in December, few failed to do so. Their teams are looking a bit weaker than the other teams, and there are high chances that they may fail to qualify for the playoffs.
Here are 3 teams that might not make the playoffs of the Indian Premier League 2023 season:
1. Punjab Kings
Punjab Kings had a disappointing mini-auction. They released some of their best players like Mayank Agarwal, Odean Smith and Sandeep Sharma ahead of the auction, and had to fill up their replacements. Moreover, they do not have any backups for Arshdeep Singh, or a quality replacement for Rahul Chahar, who didn’t perform to the expectations in the last season.

2. Lucknow Super Giants
Lucknow Super Giants have an experienced duo of KL Rahul and Quinton de Kock. They also have interesting bowling options in the form of Mohsin Khan, Avesh Khan, Krunal Pandya, and Mark Wood. However, the team lacked reliability and potency in the middle-order. The likes of Ayush Badoni and Marcus Stoinis were not consistent to provide a strong flourish for LSG.

3. Delhi Capitals
DC could not reach the IPL 2022 playoffs due to their average bowling performances and lack of finishing abilities. However, this time too, their team doesn’t look much improved. They traded Shardul Thakur to Kolkata, but could not find his replacement in the auction. The team also lacks the presence of a quality pace-bowling all-rounder and an explosive Indian batter in the middle-order.
