Former Australian batter Aaron Finch has warned IPL teams that the Lucknow Super Giants (LSG) opening pair of KL Rahul and Quinton de Kock will have a big season in the upcoming IPL 2023. Speaking in an interaction with Star Sports, Finch pointed out that the LSG opening combination complements each other well, with different strengths and weaknesses that offset each other. He praised KL Rahul’s captaincy and stated that the home ground advantage will play a significant role for LSG this season.
LSG had a great IPL 2022, reaching the playoffs but losing to RCB in the eliminator. KL Rahul had a prolific season, scoring 616 runs in 16 matches and striking two tons and four half-centuries. He led his team admirably, especially when the bowlers were under pressure. LSG has added Nicholas Pooran to their middle order, which will provide invaluable support.

Finch further analyzed the LSG squad and praised their depth and versatility. He mentioned the power in their middle-order with Stoinis and Pooran and highlighted the bowling options they have, particularly Krunal Pandya. He also mentioned that the unpredictable nature of the Lucknow wicket could work in LSG’s favor.
Finch believes that Nicholas Pooran could be the X-factor for LSG this season. Pooran was part of SRH in IPL 2022, scoring 306 runs in 14 matches with a strike rate of 144.34 and an average of 38.25, including two half-centuries. Finch said that Pooran’s ability to strike at a high rate, particularly early in his innings, makes him the player to watch out for in the LSG team.

LSG will begin their IPL 2023 campaign on 1st April with an evening game against Delhi Capitals at Lucknow. With a strong team and home ground advantage, LSG will be looking to improve on their performance from last season and make a deep run in the tournament. The warning from Aaron Finch will only add to the pressure on their opponents, who will have to find a way to contain the dangerous opening pair of KL Rahul and Quinton de Kock.
