IPL 2023 CSK vs GT: Aakash Chopra suggests Ben Stokes should bat at No.3 for Chennai Super Kings

Former Indian opener believes Stokes can perform up to his potential in the top order, while urging Ruturaj Gaikwad to start aggressively in T20 matches.

The Chennai Super Kings are gearing up for the IPL 2023 season, and former Indian opener Aakash Chopra has shared his thoughts on Ben Stokes’ role in the team. The four-time champions bought the England Test captain for a whopping Rs 16.25 crore in the recent mini-auction, and Chopra believes that Stokes should bat in the top order to perform up to his potential in T20 matches.

Gaikwad

Chopra’s analysis delves into the playing style of both Stokes and Ruturaj Gaikwad, highlighting the need for Gaikwad to be more aggressive from the start of his innings. The veteran commentator emphasized that the younger generation of batters needs to start strong and maintain the pace, unlike the older generation that used to build innings slowly.

Stokes, who made his IPL debut for the Raising Pune Super Giants in 2016, is a valuable addition to the Super Kings squad. He scored 316 runs, including a century, and picked up 12 wickets in his debut season, earning the title of the most valuable player. However, Chopra pointed out that Stokes prefers to take his time in the middle and tends to perform better when batting at no.3.
