IPL 2023 CSK vs GT: Shane Watson backs MS Dhoni to keep playing for as long as he wants

Former CSK player praises Dhoni's dedication ahead of IPL 2023 opener between CSK and Gujarat Titans

Shane Watson, former Chennai Super Kings player, has praised the team’s captain, MS Dhoni, saying that he can play for as long as he wants. Watson commended Dhoni’s work ethic and passion for the game, calling it amazing to watch someone of his stature still putting in the hard yards at practice.

The Indian Premier League’s 16th edition will begin with a match between reigning champions Gujarat Titans and Chennai Super Kings in Ahmedabad. After a forgettable performance last year, when they finished in ninth place, CSK will be aiming to make a strong comeback. However, they have a history of bouncing back from worse circumstances, such as their suspension in 2016 and 2017, after which they won the trophy in 2018.

Watson is confident that the team will turn things around and make a strong comeback, given their talented players and the leadership of Dhoni and Stephen Fleming. The former player also praised the team’s fans, saying that they are something very special.

While there are speculations that this season may be Dhoni’s last, Watson believes that the captain can play for as long as he wants. He stated that Dhoni is still very fit and has put in more work in the lead-up to this tournament. Watson also believes that the captain understands the game and knows how to get the most out of his squad.

The defending champions, Gujarat Titans, will take on the four-time champions, Chennai Super Kings, in the opening match of IPL 2023. With Dhoni at the helm, CSK will be looking to make a strong start and prove their mettle in the upcoming competition.
