Axar Patel’s recent batting form has caught the attention of the Delhi Capitals’ management, with team director Sourav Ganguly confirming that they are considering promoting him up the order. The 29-year-old all-rounder was the second-leading run-scorer for India in the recent Test series against Australia, and his contributions with the bat could be vital for DC’s success in the IPL 2023.
Despite batting at number 8 in their opening game against the Lucknow Super Giants, Axar showed his ability with the bat, scoring 16 off 11. Ganguly praised Axar’s improvement with the bat and hoped that he could replicate his form from the Australia series.
While Ganguly backed Axar to continue contributing with the ball, he acknowledged that the West Indian batter had made it difficult for the spinner in the last game. He urged Axar to focus on his bowling and be aware of the situation, as clever bowling is crucial in T20 cricket.

Ganguly also defended young opener Prithvi Shaw against claims that he struggles against genuine fast bowling, stating that everyone has to learn to play it. He credited Mark Wood for his impressive performance, which restricted DC to 143/9 in their first game.
DC will face the Gujarat Titans on April 4, and all eyes will be on Axar Patel to see if he can deliver with both bat and ball. With Ganguly’s support and backing, Axar has the potential to make a significant impact for his team in the upcoming games.
