IPL 2023 | DC vs SRH: David Warner Responds to Strike Rate Criticism by Virender Sehwag

The Delhi Capitals Captain Defends His Approach to Batting and Discusses the Challenges Faced in the Tournament So Far

As the Sunrisers Hyderabad (SRH) gear up to take on the Delhi Capitals (DC), SRH skipper David Warner has responded to criticism of his strike rate, especially after former Indian opener Virender Sehwag’s recent statement. Sehwag had taken a dig at Warner, saying that if he doesn’t want to play aggressively, he shouldn’t come to the IPL.

Warner had an excellent outing against Kolkata Knight Riders, smashing 57 runs in 41 balls. However, SRH has had a mixed bag in the tournament so far, winning two matches out of five. The team is heavily reliant on Harry Brook and Rahul Tripathi at the back end of innings.

DC’s middle-order performance has also been a concern for head coach Ricky Ponting and director Sourav Ganguly. The management is considering bringing back Sarfaraz Khan, who had a brilliant domestic run.

Addressing the criticism, Warner stated that he would bat according to the game’s situation rather than going berserk. He also highlighted that even if he plays aggressively and gets out, people would still criticize him.

“There’s going to be a lot of critiques out there to suggest that I haven’t been batting the way I normally bat. But when you lose three wickets in a row in two overs and I have faced three balls, what would you do? You can’t do anything. You have some sense of responsibility,” said Warner during the post-match presentation of DC vs KKR.
