Delhi Capitals CEO Dhiraj Malhotra recently opened up about the team’s feelings on losing the explosive keeper-batter, Rishabh Pant, in the upcoming edition of the Indian Premier League (IPL). Speaking to the Times of India, Malhotra called Pant an “impact player on all fronts” and acknowledged that the team will sorely miss his services in the tournament.
Rishabh Pant, who suffered a life-threatening accident late last year, is currently on the road to recovery, but there is no timeline on his return. As a result, opening batter David Warner is likely to take over as DC’s captain for IPL 2023.
Malhotra went on to praise Pant’s contributions to the team, calling him a “really strong No. 4, No. 5, wicket-keeper batter, who controls the game from behind the stumps.” He also noted that “there was no bowler who could stop him,” emphasizing the significant void that Pant’s absence will leave in the team.
However, Malhotra expressed his gratitude that Pant is recovering well and hoped to see him back in action soon. The CEO also mentioned the team’s desire to have Pant in the dugout for some of the home games, but it ultimately depends on the BCCI’s decision.
Despite his absence, the Delhi Capitals will be aiming to put up a strong performance in IPL 2023, starting with their first game against the Lucknow Super Giants on April 1.
