Vijay Shankar, the all-rounder for Gujarat Titans (GT), has been in fine form in the ongoing Indian Premier League (IPL) 2023. After playing two impressive knocks in the league, the Indian cricketer has opened up about his return to the national team. Shankar stated that he is not mentally thinking about it and has no expectations at the moment. He just wants to enjoy cricket and focus on winning matches for his team.

In his last two matches, Vijay Shankar played a crucial role in securing victories for GT. His unbeaten knock of 63 off just 24 balls against Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR) in Ahmedabad propelled his team to a total of 204 runs. In the reverse fixture against KKR, he blasted 51 runs in just 24 balls in a pressure situation and helped his team win the game by 7 wickets.

Talking about his India return, Shankar said, “It’s too far for me. Mentally I’m really not thinking about that. If I can win matches for my team, that’s the only satisfaction I can take from every game. No expectations, I just want to enjoy my cricket.”

Shankar had played for India in the 2019 ODI World Cup but failed to perform as expected. Since then, he has not been called back to the national team. However, his recent form in the IPL has earned him praise from his team captain, Hardik Pandya. He said, “He’s fitter, more confident and the amount of hard work he’s done is terrific. Going forward, you’ll see a lot of Vijay Shankar.”
