Indian cricketer-turned-commentator Ravi Shastri has made a bold prediction that young Gujarat Titans (GT) batter Shubman Gill has what it takes to break Virat Kohli’s seemingly insurmountable record of 973 runs scored in a single season in IPL 2016. Kohli’s incredible record is considered one of the toughest records to break in the tournament’s history, but Shastri is convinced that Gill can do it.
Shastri believes that Gill, who plays as an opener, has the talent and form to break the record. The 60-year-old commentator pointed out that if Gill can score 80-100 runs consecutively in two or three innings, he will already have 300-400 runs, which would be a great start in breaking the record. Shastri did admit that it is nearly impossible to break the record, but he believes that if anyone can do it, it has to be an opener.

Shubman Gill recently surpassed 2000 runs in the IPL, which is a great milestone for any young cricketer. In the 74 innings he has played in 77 matches, Gill has scored 2016 runs with an average of 32.22 and a strike rate of 126.24. In the previous IPL season, Gill had his most successful season, where he scored 483 runs, including his highest individual score of 96.

This season, Gill had a good start to his campaign with a knock of 63 in the tournament opener against Chennai Super Kings (CSK). Gill and his team, Gujarat Titans, will face Punjab Kings next on Thursday, April 13, and all eyes will be on the young opener to see if he can continue his form and maybe even make his way towards breaking Kohli’s record.
It will certainly be an exciting and interesting season for all cricket fans as we watch the young cricketers grow and compete against some of the best players in the world. Gill has shown incredible potential in his previous seasons, and if he continues to perform consistently, he might just be the one to break Kohli’s record and make history in the IPL. Only time will tell if this prediction will come true, but for now, cricket enthusiasts can sit back and enjoy the thrilling matches that are sure to come.
