The 2-time champions Kolkata Knight Riders have suffered a major setback before the match against Gujarat Titans. Bangladesh’s veteran wicket-keeper batsman Litton Das has returned home due to a family emergency and now there is little hope of him being available for the upcoming matches of the Indian Premier League for Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR). This is because the Bangladesh Cricket Board (BCB) had issued him a no-objection certificate till May 4.
“He had a family medical emergency for which he had to fly back to Dhaka this morning. There is no update on his return yet,” a team official said as quoted by news agency PTI.
Das was bought by KKR for Rs 50 lakh at last year’s auction. He played just one game in the 2023 season and that came against Delhi Capitals. Opening the innings with Jason Roy, Litton Das scored only four runs in the match against Delhi Capitals and as a wicketkeeper, he missed two stumping chances. Delhi won this match by four wickets and broke the streak of losing in five consecutive matches. Litton came to India much later to play in IPL 2023 as he was with the national team on the tour of Ireland then. Now he is expected to play in the upcoming 3-match ODI series against Ireland.

Earlier Kolkata Knight Riders got a big blow in the form of Shakib Al Hasan. Bangladesh’s star all-rounder Shakib withdrew his name from the 16th edition of the IPL. KKR included England opener Jason Roy in his place. Jason Roy is performing brilliantly at the moment. He has scored 2 consecutive half-centuries this season.
