Kane Williamson has been subject to a lot of scrutiny in the recent times in white ball cricket. Many cricketing experts have called his playing his style outdated in T20 cricket and against the tide of current times. Yet, Williamson continues to be a pillar of New Zealand cricket team in the international cricket. He was released ahead of the IPL 2022 mini-auction by Sunrisers Hyderabad.

No one except Gujarat Titans registered a bid for Kane Williamson in the mini-auction. He was sold at his price of Rs 2 Crores to the defending champions. Williamson will feature in the Gujarat Titans purely as a batter as Hardik Pandya is going to captain the side.

Social media went abuzz when Williamson was sold in the auction at his base price. Some netizens claimed that Williamson does not deserve to be the part of IPL anymore while some claimed that Gujarat Titans have managed to sneak in a great deal in the mini-auction.

After the auction, Ashish Nehra, the mentor of Gujarat Titans and Hardik Pandya, the captain said that Kane Williamson is going to be a regular member of GT playing 11 in IPL 2023. It means that Kane Williamson is either going to bat at number three or open the innings for Gujarat Titans in the upcoming edition of Indian Premier League.
