Lucknow Super Giants’ captain KL Rahul is expected to miss the rest of the IPL 2023 matches after sustaining a hip flexor injury in the team’s last match against Royal Challengers Bangalore. Rahul got injured while sprinting towards the boundary to stop a Faf du Plessis cover drive off Marcus Stoinis’ bowling. He left the field immediately and came out to bat at number 11 later in the game, but couldn’t score and didn’t run either. Rahul is set to undergo scans at the BCCI designated medical facility in Mumbai.
According to a senior BCCI source, “KL is currently with the team in Lucknow, but he is leaving the camp on Thursday after watching the game against CSK on Wednesday. His scans will be done in Mumbai at the BCCI designated medical facility. His case as well as Jaydev’s case will be handled by BCCI.” The source also confirmed that the scans have not been done yet, and there will be a race against time to get Rahul fit for the World Test Championship final against Australia, scheduled from June 7 to 11.

The source further added that “When someone sustains an injury like this, there is considerable amount of pain and swelling that is there in and around the area. The swelling takes around 24 to 48 hours to heal, and only after that can you perform the scan. Since he is an important member of the Test team, it would only be prudent that he doesn’t take any further part in IPL. Once the scans ascertain the degree of injury, the BCCI medical team will decide the course of action.”

The news of Rahul’s injury comes as a massive blow for the Lucknow Super Giants, who have already lost a few players to injuries this season. Moreover, the team is doing really very good and currently sits at the third position on the IPL points table. In addition to Rahul, the team is also dealing with the loss of Jaydev Unadkat, who has a serious shoulder condition and has been ruled out of the IPL.
In short, KL Rahul’s injury is a significant setback for Lucknow Super Giants, who were already struggling in the IPL 2023. His absence will be felt in the team, and they will have to find a way to perform without him. Meanwhile, fans and cricket enthusiasts will be eagerly waiting for the scan results to see whether Rahul will be fit to play in the upcoming WTC final.
