Cricket legend Sunil Gavaskar has criticized Lucknow Super Giants’ mentality and shot selection during their botched run-chase against Gujarat Titans in the ongoing IPL 2023. LSG had looked set to comfortably chase down the 136-run target, but ended up losing the game by 7 runs, losing five wickets in the final five overs.
Gavaskar questioned LSG’s tendency to go for glory shots, instead of playing safe and sensible shots that could have won them the match. While the net run-rate is important, winning the match and getting the points should always be the top priority, he said.

He also took an indirect jab at Marcus Stoinis, who failed to deliver for the team in the final over despite being a big hitter. Gavaskar said that this is where the so-called big hitters are supposed to earn the mega bucks they are given, but they often flatter to deceive with the odd six or two and fail to take their team over the finish line.

LSG will be looking to bounce back from their defeat when they face Punjab Kings (PBKS) in their next match on April 28. Meanwhile, PBKS, who have been unpredictable this season, will be hoping to continue their good form and move up the IPL 2023 points table with a win. Gavaskar praised PBKS’s young Indian players, who have been punching above their weight, but also highlighted the lack of contribution from their big names like Matt Short and Liam Livingstone.
The upcoming match promises to be an exciting clash between two evenly matched teams, with both PBKS and LSG having eight points each. The winner will join Rajasthan Royals, Gujarat Titans, and Chennai Super Kings at the top of the IPL 2023 points table.
