IPL 2023 | LSG vs SRH: LSG Bowling Coach Morne Morkel Lauds Mark Wood’s Promising Bowling in IPL, Expects Further Improvement

Morne Morkel praises Mark Wood's exceptional pace and accuracy, believes the England bowler will continue to make a significant contribution to Lucknow Super Giants' progress in the IPL tournament.

Mark Wood, the England fast bowler, has been impressing with his bowling skills in the Indian Premier League (IPL) for the Lucknow Super Giants (LSG). He has taken eight wickets in just two games, with a five-wicket haul on his debut against the Delhi Capitals (DC). However, Wood struggled in the subsequent game against Chennai Super Kings (CSK), giving away plenty of runs.

Morne Morkel, the LSG bowling coach, spoke about Wood’s success as a fast bowler in the IPL and expressed his admiration for his abilities. Morkel cited Wood’s exceptional pace and accuracy as crucial factors for his success. He praised Wood’s hard work and determination, stating that he believes the England bowler will continue to improve and make a significant contribution to the team’s progress in the tournament.

Morkel acknowledged that Wood is still finding his feet in the sub-continent, especially in the IPL, where the margins are tough. The bowling coach emphasized the importance of working out what to expect from certain surfaces and helping Wood adapt to the conditions.

Morkel also addressed the selection dilemma that will arise once Quinton de Kock becomes available due to Kyle Mayers’ outstanding performance. Despite Mayers’ incredible display against CSK, Lucknow lost by 12 runs, failing to chase down a target of 218.
