Lucknow Super Giants (LSG) fast bowler Mark Wood has made a sensational start to his IPL 2023 campaign, picking up eight wickets in just two games. However, his most recent performance against Chennai Super Kings (CSK) saw him concede 49 runs in four overs, despite taking three wickets. LSG bowling coach Morne Morkel has explained that although Wood is a world-class bowler, he is still finding his feet in Indian conditions, particularly in the IPL.
The English pacer was purchased by CSK in 2018, but only played one match for the team before being sidelined. Three years later, he was acquired by LSG in the IPL 2022 mega-auction for a whopping Rs. 7.5 Crore, but missed the tournament due to an injury. In his first IPL matches in four years, Wood has been in stunning form, and looks set to be a strong contender for the Purple Cap this season.

Morkel, who is a former Purple Cap winner himself, has advised Wood not to overthink his performances in the IPL, and to trust that he was selected for his ability. Morkel suggested that Wood has the experience to reflect on his performances and learn from them.
Looking ahead, LSG and Wood will be hoping to bounce back from their defeat to CSK and return to winning ways in their upcoming match against Sunrisers Hyderabad (SRH) on April 7th. Wood’s progress in the IPL will be closely watched, as he continues to establish himself as a key player in the LSG lineup.
