South African batter Aiden Markram is all set to lead the Sunrisers Hyderabad franchise in the Indian Premier League (IPL) 2023 season.
Sunrisers Hyderabad will open their campaign against Rajasthan Royals on April 2. SRH boasts stars like Aiden Markram, Glenn Philips, Heinrich Klaasen, Adil Rashid, and many others. However, there still is no clarity over the vice-captain’s role in the team.
Bhuvneshwar Kumar and Mayank Agarwal are the two top choices, and as per reports, Mayank Agarwal will become SRH’s vice-captain for the upcoming season.

Agarwal knows Indian players quite well and can strike a chord with the Indian domestic players on a better level. Moreover, Mayank Agarwal already has experience in leadership roles. Agarwal was named as the captain of Punjab Kings when KL Rahul went and joined Lucknow Super Giants (LSG) ahead of IPL 2022. Mayank Agarwal also captained Rest of India (ROI) who recently defeated Saurashtra to lay their hands on the Irani Cup.
Markram earlier admitted that the choice between Bhuvi and Mayank was a tough one. Though he didn’t have a name in his head, he felt both the players would do a wonderful job.
“That’s a tough one. I played under Mayank at the Kings. He and I got on really well. And if you look at the amount of experience someone like Bhuvi has, it is almost unreplaceable. So, to pick one would be difficult right now but I think both of them would nail it certainly,” he said.
