IPL 2023 | MI vs PBKS: Pragyan Ojha Praises Rohit Sharma’s Captaincy for Boosting Confidence in Young Players

Pragyan Ojha commends Rohit Sharma's leadership skills and strategies for recruiting young talent, especially Arjun Tendulkar, in the Mumbai Indians team, resulting in their success in the Indian Premier League (IPL) with five championship wins in 15 years.

Former Indian cricketer Pragyan Ojha recently praised Mumbai Indians’ captain Rohit Sharma for his exceptional leadership during the 2023 Indian Premier League season. In an interview with Jio Cinema, Ojha credited Sharma for giving the young players a sense of confidence, especially Arjun Tendulkar, who made his IPL debut this season.

Arjun Tendulkar

Ojha was impressed by Sharma’s captaincy strategy and his ability to recruit new talent and fresh faces. In the last match against SunRisers Hyderabad, Sharma brilliantly handled his bowling unit and gave Arjun Tendulkar the opportunity to bowl the 20th over, despite being a newcomer. Arjun went on to claim his first-ever IPL wicket by dismissing Bhuvneshwar Kumar, contributing to his team’s 14-run victory.

“Last game, he was just brilliant the way he used his bowlers. The confidence that he gave Arjun Tendulkar was just outstanding because a guy who is playing just his second game on this kind of platform and bowling the 20th over, is not easy and it needs a lot of backing,” said Ojha.

Ojha also credited Sharma’s exceptional leadership skills for the team’s success over the years. Mumbai Indians have won five IPL championships, making them the most successful team in the league. Ojha emphasized that winning five trophies consistently in 15 years is no easy feat, and it is a testament to Sharma’s planning and captaincy skills.

“That’s where I feel Rohit Sharma has been brilliant in handling these boys and the seniors in the team. It is very important how you make them feel, and Rohit has been exceptional. As a captain, he has been spot-on. It is not just by chance that you win five trophies,” added Ojha.

Rohit

Mumbai Indians will face Punjab Kings at the Wankhede Stadium in Mumbai on April 22, 2023, after a successful match against Sunrisers Hyderabad. With Rohit Sharma’s exceptional leadership skills and the young talent’s outstanding performance, Mumbai Indians are likely to continue their winning streak in the upcoming matches.
