Here are three player battles to watch out for during MI vs RR match:
1) Rohit Sharma vs Trent Boult
Although the Mumbai skipper entered the tournament in good form, he has struggled to perform consistently this season. Sharma has only passed the fifty-run mark once in IPL 2023, and it’s crucial for the team’s success for him to step up. However, he faces a tough challenge against the Rajasthan Royals’ Trent Boult, who has a solid record against Sharma in all formats. Boult has troubled many batters in his first over this season and will try to do the same against Sharma at Mumbai’s Wankhede Stadium.
2) Sanju Samson vs Piyush Chawla
The RR captain has been consistent this season without being spectacular. His most influential innings so far came against Gujarat Titans when he took down Rashid Khan. He will be looking to repeat that performance against MI’s Piyush Chawla. The veteran spinner has been a revelation for MI this year and will be the key to containing RR’s batting in the middle overs. The outcome of the game might well depend on how Samson fares against Chawla.
3) Suryakumar Yadav vs Yuzvendra Chahal
The world’s number 1 T20I batter has had a difficult time in recent months, but he showed signs of his best against Punjab Kings with a superb fifty. MI will need Suryakumar Yadav to be at his best if they want to progress in the competition. However, he will be up against Yuzvendra Chahal in the middle overs, who hasn’t been at his best this season but is capable of producing something special when under pressure. Chahal will relish the opportunity to bowl against Yadav at the Wankhede Stadium.
