Punjab Kings defeated Kolkata Knight Riders by seven runs through the Duckworth Lewis Method in the second match of IPL 2023. Bhanuka Rajapaksa played a fantastic knock of 50 off 32 to set the tone for Punjab Kings’ win in the match.

Punjab Kings got off to a flier with both Prabhsimran Singh and Shikhar Dhawan playing handy knocks at the top. Simran scored 23 off 12 before being sent back by Tim Southee. Dhawan went on to play the role of an anchor and scored 40 off 29. He was dismissed by Varun Chakravarthy. Bhanuka Rajapaksa was the star with the bat for PBKS with his half-century. He was dismissed by Umesh Yadav.

At one point, it seemed that Punjab Kings would cross the mark of 200 runs, but the KKR bowlers pulled the run rate back in the death overs. Jitesh Sharma scored 21 off 11, and the debutant Sikandar Raza scored 16 off 13. Sam Curran remained unbeaten on 26 off 17. Punjab Kings posted 191/5 in the 20 overs.

Kolkata Knight Riders were always behind in the chase, with wickets falling at regular intervals in the game. Venkatesh Iyer was brought in as the impact player and was the second top scorer for KKR with 34 runs. Andre Russell played a handy knock of 35 off 19, but it was not enough to take KKR ahead of the DLS when the rain arrived. KKR needed 46 runs off 4 overs to win the game when DLS came into play due to rain. They ultimately lost the game by 7 runs. Arshdeep Singh accounted for thee of the KKR batters in the game.
