Less than 3 weeks are left for IPL 2023 to begin, but Punjab kings are still uncertain about Jonny Bairstow’s availability in the 16th edition of the IPL and are waiting for medical clearance from the ECB.

On September 2, 2022, Bairstow broke his left leg and dislocated his ankle while playing golf with friends in Yorkshire, suffering multiple fractures in his fibula and also sustaining ligament damage. Since then Bairstow has missed all the cricket England has played.

Bairstow started running for the first time recently, and on February 27 he posted a video of him running to his Instagram page.

Punjab Kings, who retained Bairstow’s services for IPL 2023 after buying him at the mega auction for INR 6.75 crore, are waiting for a word from the ECB regarding Bairstow’s availability for the IPL.

Last year, Bairstow scored 253 runs in 11 innings, averaging 23 with a strike rate of 144.57, with two half-centuries.

The 16th edition of the Indian Premier League will be starting from March 31 and the last league match will be played on May 21. Defending Champions Gujarat Titans will be facing Chennai Super Kings in the opening encounter.
