IPL 2023 | RR vs LSG: Virender Sehwag slams Riyan Parag for his failures, says he deserves to sit on the bench

Former Indian opener expresses concern over the inconsistent form of Rajasthan Royals' Riyan Parag in IPL 2023, suggesting the team may look to other players on the bench to replace him.

Virender Sehwag, the former Indian opener, has criticized Rajasthan Royals’ (RR) batter Riyan Parag for his poor performances in the ongoing Indian Premier League (IPL) 2023. Sehwag said that if Parag continues to fail, he deserves to sit on the bench, and other players would be wondering why they aren’t getting a chance.

Despite being the best team so far in the IPL 2023, with four wins out of five matches, the middle-order batter’s poor form is a cause for concern for the Rajasthan Royals. Parag has struggled to score runs consistently for the past two to three seasons, and this IPL has been no different. He has managed just 39 runs at a strike rate of 108.33.

Sehwag believes that Rajasthan Royals may be considering dropping Parag, and if he wants to play for India, he needs to perform on this platform. Otherwise, it’s only fair for him to sit on the bench. Speaking to Cricbuzz, Sehwag said, “If he wants to play for India, then this is the platform where he has to deliver, or else he deserves to sit on the bench.”

Rajat Bhatia, who was also present during the discussion, agreed with Sehwag’s sentiments. Bhatia said that the Rajasthan Royals have invested their trust in Parag for a long time, but he hasn’t lived up to expectations. He suggested that the team could look at other players on the bench to fill the role.

Despite the criticism, the Rajasthan Royals are still in a great position, and they can afford to test other players, especially against Lucknow Super Giants (LSG) in their next game on Wednesday (19th April). With other talented players on the bench, Parag’s poor form could mean a chance for someone else to step up and make an impact for the team.
