IPL 2023: Shikhar Dhawan Talks about Potential Political Career and Desire for ODI Comeback

Indian cricket star discusses future in politics and willingness to give his 100% in any field, while also expressing admiration for Shubman Gill's performances in the national team.

Indian cricketer Shikhar Dhawan, known for his impressive performances on the field, recently spoke out about his rumored interest in politics. While he currently has no plans to pursue a career in politics, he did not rule out the possibility of doing so in the future if it is “written in his destiny.”

Dhawan has had a successful career in international cricket, accumulating 6793 runs in 167 matches in the 50-over format. He has also made a significant impact in the Indian Premier League (IPL), where he is set to captain the Punjab Kings in the upcoming edition of the tournament. Fans are eagerly anticipating the sight of Dhawan as captain once again, having previously led the national team on several occasions.

In a recent interview, Dhawan discussed his thoughts on participating in politics before the 2024 Lok Sabha elections. He stated that he has not spoken to anyone regarding his plans of joining politics, but he would not refuse any future opportunities that may come his way. Dhawan emphasized that he would give his 100 percent effort to whichever field he decides to pursue.

The 37-year-old player, who has been the subject of rumors about his political ambitions, clarified that he has not spoken to anyone about his plans to join politics. While he currently has no such plans, Dhawan stated that he would not refuse any future opportunities that come his way. He added that success is certain for him in any field he chooses, as he has been working hard since he was 11 years old.

During the same interview, Dhawan discussed losing his spot in the Indian ODI team to Shubman Gill. Despite being left out of the team since his last ODI against Bangladesh in December 2022, Dhawan remains determined to make a comeback and play in the upcoming World Cup on home soil later this year. He confessed that if he were a selector, he would have also chosen Gill over himself, as the young opener has showcased remarkable performances and secured his position as a reliable opener in the team.

With the IPL on the horizon, Dhawan will be eager to leave a remarkable performance that puts him back in the pecking order with the selectors yet to decide on a team for the World Cup 2023.
