IPL 2023: Shubman Gill Credits Idol Virat Kohli for His Remarkable Growth

Shubman Gill's Explosive 101-run Knock Illuminates GT's Victory Against SRH, as the Young Star Acknowledges Virat Kohli's Influential Mentorship

In a sensational display of batting prowess, Shubman Gill, after an astounding century against Sunrisers Hyderabad in IPL 2023, attributed his growth as a cricketer to his idol, Virat Kohli. Gill’s scintillating innings of 101 runs off 58 balls in the GT vs SRH clash on Monday (May 15) left spectators in awe.

Gill

The gifted right-handed batsman blazed his way to 13 boundaries and 1 six during the match. Following Gujarat Titans’ early setback with the dismissal of opener Wriddhiman Saha for a duck in the first over, Gill forged an extraordinary partnership of 146 runs with Sai Sudharsan, propelling the team’s total to 188-9 in their allotted 20 overs.

Gujarat Titans not only clinched victory by 34 runs but also owed their success to Gill’s magnificent century. Challenging SRH to chase a target of 189 runs, GT’s bowlers brilliantly restricted their opponents to 154-9 in 20 overs, with Mohammed Shami and Mohit Sharma securing four-wicket hauls. However, it was Shubman Gill’s awe-inspiring innings that earned him the well-deserved accolade of the player of the match.

However, they faltered in the final five overs, losing seven wickets, which affected their overall score.

Following their victory against SRH, GT has secured a place in the playoffs of IPL 2023. Led by the dynamic Hardik Pandya, the team is set to face Royal Challengers Bangalore in their last league stage game.
