IPL 2023 Yesterday Match Result KKR vs SRH: Rinku-Rana Effort Goes in Vain; Brook Century Prevails
Sunrisers Hyderabad put up a dominant 228 batting first, with Harry Brook scoring the first century of the IPL 2023. Nitish Rana, the captain of Kolkata Knight Riders, won the toss and chose to bowl first against SRH. Brook led the charge against the KKR bowlers, with Aiden Markram and Abhishek Sharma providing vital cameos.
With a massive target of 229 to chase, it was always going to be tough for KKR to sustain a run-rate of 11 or more per over. However, skipper Rana (75 off 41 balls) launched into the SRH bowlers with half a dozen sixes and had ‘Man of the Moment’ Rinku Singh (58 not out off 31 balls) for company in their 69-run partnership off only 6.2 overs.
This came after KKR had been reduced to 96/5 in the opening ten overs. T Natarajan removed Rana, leaving Rinku to pull off another robbery as 57 was required off the final three overs. However, Bhuvneshwar Kumar (1/29 in 4 overs) was dismissed for 10 in the 18th over, while Natarajan (1/54 in 4 overs) was dismissed for 16 in the penultimate over.
Umran Malik (1/36 in 2 overs) came back superbly to dismiss Shardul Thakur with the first delivery, virtually closing the game with Rinku on strike. For the first two pitches, the southpaw was stranded at the opposite end. Rinku faced four balls, but Umran bowled quick and full to keep him at bay.
