Yashasvi Jaiswal’s 77 off 43 balls, combined with excellent finishing from Dhruv Jurel and Devdutt Padikkal, helped the Rajasthan Royals post 202/5, the first time any team has scored more than 200 runs in an IPL match at the Sawai Man Singh Stadium. In response, Chennai Super Kings struggled to stay in the hunt. Ruturaj Gaikwad scored 47 off 29 balls before falling for the second of Adam Zampa’s three wickets. Meanwhile, Ajinkya Rahane was out for 15 off 13 balls, leaving CSK hoping for a miraculous partnership from Ravindra Jadeja and Shivam Dube.
Dube kept them interested until about halfway through the 19th over, when CSK’s pursuit became mathematically impossible. Dube was caught off the final ball of the match on 52 off 33, and CSK’s innings ended on 170/6, with the Royals winning by 32 runs. Earlier, Jaiswal smashed a 26-ball half-century to help the Rajasthan Royals dominate the powerplay. They scored 64 runs in the first six overs, with Jos Buttler opting to support Jaiswal.
Buttler quickly fell, as did RR captain Sanju Samson. After Jaiswal’s innings ended, RR temporarily struggled to maintain their run rate. That was only temporary, as Devdutt Padikkal and Dhruv Jurel led RR to a good finish and a score of 202/5. As RR scored 63 runs in the final five overs, the pair put up 48 runs off 20 balls for the fifth wicket. With the victory, the Royals reclaimed first place in the table.
