Royal Challengers Bangalore have decided to keep the nucleus of their batting lineup while releasing 11 players, including their first-choice bowling unit, from their 2023 roster ahead of the Indian Premier League (IPL) 2024 mini-auction.
RCB has chosen to keep captain Faf Du Plessis, key batsman Virat Kohli, versatile player Glenn Maxwell, wicketkeeper-batsman Dinesh Karthik, and pace leader Mohammed Siraj from the roster that secured the sixth position on the points table in IPL 2023.
In addition to the retentions, the Bangalore-centric team, still in pursuit of its first title after 16 attempts, has secured the services of Australian all-rounder Cameron Green through a cash-only trade with Mumbai Indians, involving a sum of Rs 17.50 Crore.
RCB has opted to part ways with key bowlers Wanindu Hasaranga, Harshal Patel, and Josh Hazlewood, freeing up nearly Rs 30 Crore. Alongside this trio, eight other players, including four overseas stars, have also been released. Despite splurging on Green, RCB’s budget remains substantial, providing ample room to reinforce their bowling attack with a focus on securing at least two, if not three, first-choice options.
As the auction on December 19, 2023 approaches, Royal Challengers Bangalore aims to reacquire former players at more budget-friendly rates than their previous acquisitions. Additionally, with six slots yet to be filled, the franchise is keen on injecting fresh T20 talent into their squad. Evaluating the roster and remaining budget post the retention and release decisions on November 26, the team gears up for strategic bidding.
