Delhi Capitals started IPL 2025 on a strong note, but now the team is facing a major crisis. Four of their players have been ruled out of the tournament. The big news is that Australian fast bowler Mitchell Starc has opted out of the IPL, and Jake Fraser-McGurk will also not return to India. It’s not just the Australians—two key South African players have also pulled out of the season. Faf du Plessis has informed Delhi Capitals that he won’t be returning to India for the remainder of the tournament. Along with him, another South African player, Donavon Ferreira, has also exited the IPL 2025.
Major Blow for Delhi Capitals
Losing four big players is a huge blow to Delhi Capitals. The team currently sits in fifth place with 13 points from 11 matches, having won 6 and lost 4. Three league matches still remain, and if Delhi wins all of them, they can finish with 19 points. However, missing star players like Starc and du Plessis at this crucial stage could severely hurt their playoff chances.

New Additions to the Squad
The good news for Delhi is that Tristan Stubbs and Dushmantha Chameera are returning to the squad. The team has also added Sadiqullah Atal. Mustafizur Rahman has been signed as well, but there’s a catch—he is yet to receive a No Objection Certificate (NOC) from the Bangladesh Cricket Board. With such uncertainty, Delhi Capitals are in a tough spot. It remains to be seen how Axar Patel and his team will navigate the road to the playoffs.
