Simon Doull, former New Zealand cricketer, has criticized Prithvi Shaw for his poor performance in IPL 2023 and urged Delhi Capitals (DC) to replace the struggling batsman. Doull believes that Shaw’s poor form is one of the reasons why DC hasn’t managed to get a great start in the tournament. The young batter has failed to get going and has struggled to score runs in all the games DC has played this season.
In six games, Shaw has managed just 47 runs and has a poor average of 7.83 and a low strike rate of 117.50. Despite being an impact player in the team, Shaw has been dropped from the XI, and Doull feels that DC should replace him. Speaking to Cricbuzz, Doull said, “You can’t continue down the same road. If things aren’t working, you have to change it up, and he has to understand where he is at in his game. And right now, it’s just not good enough.”

Doull also criticized Shaw’s fitness and said that he isn’t adjusting to the team’s requirements. He pointed out an incident where Shaw sat on the backside of the bench the whole time when Delhi were fielding and did nothing. Later, when he came out to bat, he was lazy with the running. Doull believes that these little things matter in the game and that Shaw has paid the price for his mistakes.
In the last game against Sunrisers Hyderabad (SRH), DC once again struggled to get going. They displayed a poor batting performance and could only manage 144 runs. With Shaw failing to score runs, DC needs to find a solution to their batting woes if they want to have any chance of making it to the playoffs. Doull believes that replacing Shaw may be the solution that they need. While Shaw is a talented player and would make a strong comeback, Doull feels that the need of the hour for DC is to make a change.
