The Indian team now has to tour Sri Lanka where it has to play a 3-match T20 first and then an ODI series of the same number of matches. For this tour, BCCI announced Team India on the evening of 18 July, in which Suryakumar Yadav has got the responsibility of captaincy for the T20 series, while all the senior players including Rohit Sharma will be seen playing in the ODI series. While Shreyas Iyer has managed to retain his place in the team announced for the ODI series, Ishan Kishan has been ignored once again.
Not playing domestic cricket is proving to be costly for Ishan
One of the major reasons behind Ishan Kishan not getting a place in the team for the ODI series against Sri Lanka is believed to be his playing only in the IPL. Due to this, he was also dropped from Team India’s central contract list. Along with Ishan, Shreyas Iyer was also dropped from the BCCI’s central contract list, but Iyer was later included. At the same time, a big reason behind Ishan not being selected is also believed to be the return of Rishabh Pant in the team, in which apart from Pant in limited overs, KL Rahul and Sanju Samson are far ahead of Ishan in the role of wicketkeeper.
Riyan got reward for good performance in domestic cricket
Riyan Parag has also got a place in Team India for the ODI series against Sri Lanka, regarding which in the statement issued by BCCI, it was clearly stated that the board will keep a close eye on the availability and participation of the players in the upcoming domestic cricket season.
This clearly shows that the selectors are giving importance to the performance of domestic cricket, in which Parag performed brilliantly while playing for the Assam team in the Vijay Hazare Trophy held last year, where 7 half-century innings were seen from his bat.
However, Abhishek Sharma and Ruturaj Gaikwad, who performed brilliantly in the recent T20 series against Zimbabwe, have not got a place in any of the teams for the series of both the formats to be played on the Sri Lanka tour.
