Born in Taunton, England, on June 22, 1991, Jack Leach spent his formative years attending Trinity School, Bishop Fox’s School, and Richard Huish College, all located in Taunton. Notably, he initially worked at a Sainsbury’s supermarket in Taunton, handling trolleys. At the age of 14, Leach was diagnosed with Crohn’s disease, a condition that he has courageously managed throughout his life.

Leach’s cricket journey took shape when he graduated from the Somerset County Cricket Club academy in the summer of 2010, leading to the signing of a professional contract with Somerset. His early cricketing experiences included representing Dorset County Cricket Club in the 2010 Minor Counties Cricket Championship, where he played a pivotal role in securing victory in the final against Lincolnshire.

While pursuing a degree in sports coaching at the University of Wales Institute, Cardiff, Leach represented Cardiff MCCU in 2011 and 2012. His first-class debut in March 2012 against his county side Somerset saw him bowl 41 overs, although he failed to take a wicket as Somerset posted an imposing total of 642/3d.

Leach made his Somerset debut in July 2012 against the touring South Africans, claiming the notable wicket of Hashim Amla. His first-class debut for Somerset in the 2012 County Championship match against Lancashire in August ended in a draw, but Leach marked his maiden first-class wicket by dismissing Kyle Hogg.

The 2012 season brought limited opportunities in the first team for Leach due to the signing of Abdur Rehman. However, he finished the season impressively, ranking ninth in the national first-class averages with 12 wickets at 18.83 runs apiece. Leach spent the winter of 2012–13 playing grade cricket for Valley District Cricket Club in Brisbane, Australia, contributing to their T20 competition victory.

Returning to Somerset for the pre-season on a summer contract, Leach made a significant impact in the Championship game against Warwickshire due to an injury to the first-choice spinner, George Dockrell. He achieved his maiden five-wicket haul in the second innings.

Leach continued to evolve in different formats of the game, making his Twenty20 debut for Somerset in the 2021 T20 Blast on June 23, 2021. In April 2022, he added a new chapter to his career by being bought by the Birmingham Phoenix for the 2022 season of The Hundred, further showcasing his adaptability and prowess in various cricketing arenas.
