Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) Secretary Jay Shah has given a big update regarding the next T20 captain of Team India. He also confirmed that senior players like Virat Kohli and Rohit Sharma will be part of Team India in the 2025 ICC Champions Trophy.
BCCI Secretary Jai Shah said on Monday that senior players will be in the Champions Trophy next year and the World Test Championship final if India qualifies, while the selectors will decide on the next T20 captain. Speaking to the media, Jai Shah praised the performance of the senior players in the title win in the T20 World Cup.
Talking about the retirement of Rohit Sharma, Virat Kohli and Ravindra Jadeja, Jai Shah said, “The change has started with the retirement of these three veterans. The way this team is playing. Our goal is to win the World Test Championship final and the Champions Trophy. Almost the same team will play in it. Seniors will also be in the team.”

It has become clear from Jai Shah’s statement that Rohit Sharma, Virat Kohli and Ravindra Jadeja will continue to play ODIs for India before the Champions Trophy to be played in Pakistan next year. 2025 Champions Trophy is to be played in Pakistan in March 2025. Jai Shah has not given any information about whether Team India will go to Pakistan for this tournament or not.
On the possibility of Hardik Pandya being made the captain of the T20 team, Jay Shah said, “The captain will be chosen by the selection committee and we will make the announcement after talking to them.” This makes it clear that Hardik will be the captain, it has not been decided yet.
