The tournament opener is slated for October 5, pitting New Zealand against defending champions England at the Narendra Modi Stadium in Ahmedabad. Host nation India will begin their World Cup campaign on October 8 in a highly anticipated clash against five-time champions Australia, taking place in Chennai.

Kevin Pietersen, who played pivotal roles for the English side in the 2007 and 2011 World Cup campaigns, has offered valuable insights into the potential frontrunners for the upcoming global showpiece event. In his analysis, the 43-year-old acknowledged South Africa’s strong contention following their series victory over Australia. However, he emphasized that India holds the position of favorites, primarily due to the advantage of playing on their home turf.

Pietersen also highlighted Pakistan as a formidable threat in this World Cup edition. While he recognized England as strong contenders, he noted that they are slightly behind India in the favorites category.

As the tournament draws near, teams have unveiled their squads for the 2023 World Cup. India, Australia, South Africa, and England have already disclosed their line-ups. However, Pakistan is yet to reveal theirs, creating an element of suspense and curiosity among fans.
