Australian cricketer Matthew William Short, born on 8 November 1995, is a representative of Victoria at the state level. He is an active player for the Adelaide Strikers in the Big Bash League (BBL) and has also contributed his skills to the Melbourne Renegades in the past. Matthew William Short, the Australian cricketer, marked his one-day debut on 20 July 2014, representing the Australia National Performance Squad against South Africa A during the Australia A Team Quadrangular Series in 2014. His inaugural first-class appearance for Cricket Australia XI was on 29 October 2015, in a tour match against New Zealand. Notably, Short achieved his maiden first-class century in a tour match against England at Townsville in mid-November 2017.

On 5 January 2023, while captaining the Strikers in Peter Siddle’s absence, Short achieved a significant milestone by scoring his maiden century in the Big Bash League. This remarkable feat occurred during the highest run chase in BBL history, with Short contributing an unbeaten 100 from 59 balls. Additionally, Short showcased his bowling skills, taking figures of 1/34 in 4 overs.
Recognizing his outstanding contributions, Short was honored with the BBL12 Player of the Tournament title at the Australian Cricket Awards on 30 January 2023. In March 2023, he joined Punjab Kings for the 2023 Indian Premier League as an injury replacement for Jonny Bairstow.
On 22 September 2023, Short made his ODI debut against the Indian national cricket team, receiving cap No. 242 from Alex Carey, the Australian wicketkeeper-batsman.
