The 2024 Indian Premier League (IPL) is set to ignite cricketing fervor once again, and the Mumbai Indians (MI) are gearing up for battle. This season, there’s a significant twist at the helm: Hardik Pandya has taken over the captaincy reins from the illustrious Rohit Sharma.
The IPL, often dubbed the “cricketing carnival,” is where legends are made, and heroes emerge. As the 17th edition kicks off, fans can expect fireworks, nail-biting finishes, and jaw-dropping performances. From 22nd March to 26th May 2024, the cricketing universe will be fixated on the action unfolding in stadiums across India. The Mumbai Indians, five-time IPL champions, are a force to be reckoned with. Their star-studded lineup boasts match-winners in every department. Let’s delve into the top five impact players who could set the stage ablaze for MI but before that lets study in brief the Impact Player Rule in IPL 2024:
Impact Players Rule in IPL 2024
The Impact Player rule introduced in the IPL 2023 adds a new layer of strategy to the game. Here’s how it works:
- Substitute Options: Alongside the playing XI, each team lists four substitutes during the toss. These substitutes can be used as Impact Players during the match.
- Captain’s Choice: Captains have several options to bring in the Impact Player:
- Before the start of an innings.
- At the end of an over.
- When a wicket falls or a batter retires.
- In-Over Substitution: If the bowling side introduces an Impact Player during an over (due to a wicket or a batter’s retirement), that player cannot bowl the remaining balls of that over.
- Replaced Player: The player replaced by the Impact Player takes no further part in the match, even as a substitute fielder.
- Overseas Player Restriction: If a team starts with four overseas players in their XI, the Impact Player must be an Indian. However, if they begin with three or fewer overseas players, an overseas player can be the Impact Player.
- Batting Limit: Only 11 players can bat. If the batting team’s Impact Player replaces a dismissed/retired batter, one of the yet-to-bat players (usually a bowler) won’t get a chance.
- Bowling Quota: When the bowling team brings in their Impact Player, they can bowl their full quota of four overs, regardless of the overs bowled by the replaced player.
