Mohammed Siraj, born on March 13, 1994, came from humble beginnings in Hyderabad. Mohammed Siraj’s parents are Mohammed Ghaus and Shabana Begum. Growing up in a lower-middle-class family, his father, an auto-rickshaw driver, made significant sacrifices to support his cricketing dreams.
In his youth, Siraj wasn’t particularly enthusiastic about academics, which often led to scoldings from his mother. However, today, she takes immense pride in her son’s achievements.
Unlike many cricketers who had access to coaching academies, Siraj was largely self-taught. He began with tennis ball cricket, honing his ability to bowl yorkers. Eventually, he joined the Charminar Cricket Club as a batsman before transitioning into a fast bowler.
His first earnings as a cricketer came from a club match, where he took nine wickets, earning him INR 500 as a reward from his uncle.
Siraj made his first-class debut for Hyderabad in November 2015 during the 2015–16 Ranji Trophy tournament and his T20 debut in January 2016 in the 2015–16 Syed Mushtaq Ali Trophy tournament.

Under the guidance of mentors like Ashish Nehra, Bhuvneshwar Kumar, and VVS Laxman, Siraj’s journey to bowling stardom faced challenges. However, he emerged as Hyderabad’s highest wicket-taker in the 2016-2017 Ranji Trophy, with an impressive tally of 41 wickets.
After securing a substantial IPL contract, Siraj’s first act was to purchase a new house for his family. Despite his success, he remains grounded, never forgetting the hardships his parents endured during his childhood.
Tragically, Siraj’s father passed away on November 20, 2020, while he was in Australia for cricket. Due to COVID-19 protocols, he couldn’t return for the funeral. Despite this emotional setback, Siraj continued to pursue his dream, knowing it was his father’s wish to see him represent India.
He made his test debut and impressed with a five-wicket haul on his Test debut at the iconic Melbourne Cricket Ground. Mohammed Siraj Career
In October 2017, he earned a spot in India’s Twenty20 International (T20I) squad for the series against New Zealand. Making his T20I debut on 4 November 2017 against New Zealand, he claimed the wicket of Kane Williamson and concluded with figures of 1 wicket for 53 runs from four overs.
February 2018 saw his inclusion in India’s T20I squad for the 2018 Nidahas Trophy. In September 2018, he was named in India’s Test squad for the series against the West Indies, although he did not play. December 2018 marked his entry into India’s One Day International (ODI) squad for the series against Australia. His ODI debut occurred at the Adelaide Oval on 15 January 2019.
On 26 October 2020, Siraj was selected for India’s Test squad against Australia. Making his Test debut on 26 December 2020, he secured his first Test wicket by dismissing Marnus Labuschagne. In January 2021, during the fourth Test against Australia, Siraj achieved his first five-wicket haul in Test cricket.
In January 2023, Siraj played a crucial role in the Ind vs NZ ODI series, taking 4 wickets in the first ODI, contributing to the team’s victory by 12 runs.
On January 21, 2023, Siraj attained the No. 1 ODI Bowler ranking in ICC ODI Rankings for Bowlers.
On August 21, 2023, Siraj was selected to represent India in the 15-man squad announced by BCCI ahead of the 2023 Asia Cup.
On September 17, 2023, during the Asia Cup final, Siraj equaled Chaminda Vaas’s record as the joint fastest bowler to take a 6-wicket haul in ODIs. He achieved a career-best figure of 6/21, becoming the first Indian to take 4 wickets in an over.
