Mohammed Siraj Test Career

On October 26, 2020, Siraj was included in India’s Test squad for their series against Australia. Amid deliberations between Navdeep Saini and Siraj following Mohammad Shami’s injury, Siraj got the nod over Saini, marking his Test debut for India on December 26, 2020, against Australia. His maiden Test wicket came against Marnus Labuschagne. Notably, in January 2021, during the fourth Test against Australia, Siraj achieved his inaugural five-wicket haul in Test cricket.

Born on March 13, 1994, in Hyderabad, Telangana, Mohammed Siraj hails from a Hyderabadi Muslim family. His father, Mohammed Ghaus, worked as an auto rickshaw driver, while his mother, Shabana Begum, took care of the household. His elder brother, Mohammed Ismail, pursued a career in engineering. Siraj’s cricket journey began at the age of 19, transitioning from playing with a tennis ball for most of his life to taking up bowling seriously at 16. Remarkably, in his debut match, he claimed 9 wickets for his uncle’s team in the Hyderabad Cricket Association.

Mohammed Siraj Domestic Records

Siraj commenced his first-class career on November 15, 2015, mentored by Karthik Udupa, representing Hyderabad in the 2015–16 Ranji Trophy tournament. His Twenty20 debut occurred on January 2, 2016, during the 2015–16 Syed Mushtaq Ali Trophy. Notably, in the 2016–17 Ranji Trophy season, he emerged as Hyderabad’s top wicket-taker, claiming 41 wickets at an impressive average of 18.92.

In February 2018, Siraj dominated the bowling charts in the 2017–18 Vijay Hazare Trophy, clinching 23 dismissals in seven matches. His stellar performances earned him a spot in India A’s squad for the 2018–19 Deodhar Trophy in October 2018. Subsequently, in October 2019, he was selected for India B’s squad in the 2019–20 Deodhar Trophy.
