Chennai Super Kings captain MS Dhoni is likely to play his last season for the team this year. While Dhoni hasn’t informed CSK of his decision officially, the understanding in CSK management is that he will play his last IPL match in front of a home crowd at Chepauk.
“We believe it will be his last as he wants to say goodbye at his favorite stadium. In any case, we should have clarity by the start of the IPL,” a CSK official told InsideSport.
With 2-3 captaincy options in the team, Dhoni can finally call it time on his playing career.
“MS hasn’t informed us about his decision. And of course, there is no pressure on him to take a call anytime soon. He is our leader and he will only do what’s best for the team. As far as the management is concerned, MS has full backing on whether he wants to continue beyond this season,” the CSK official said.
Here are 3 players who can take over CSK’s captaincy after Dhoni’s exit:
1. Ben Stokes
2. Ruturaj Gaikwad
3. Ajinkya Rahane
Last season MS Dhoni handed over CSK captaincy to Ravindra Jadeja. However, Jadeja’s captaincy flop show forced Dhoni to take charge back.
