With the 17th edition of the Indian Premier League (IPL) just three months away, the recent mini auction held in Dubai has set the stage for the upcoming season. As teams prepare, Chennai Super Kings (CSK) fans are eager to know if MS Dhoni will extend his stint beyond the upcoming season. While CSK CEO Kasi Viswanathan maintains that only Dhoni can confirm if 2024 will mark his final edition, the anticipation among fans remains high.
“That I do not know. See, as far as the captain is concerned, he will answer you directly. He does not tell us what he is going to do,” Viswanathan said as quoted by The Indian Express.
Having undergone knee surgery in early June, MS Dhoni is currently in the rehabilitation phase, with expectations of being match-fit well before IPL 2024. According to CSK CEO Kasi Viswanathan, Dhoni’s recovery is progressing positively, with gym sessions already underway and net practice anticipated in about 10 days.
In their quest to defend the IPL title, Chennai Super Kings made noteworthy moves during the Players Auction in Dubai on December 19. Led by Dhoni, the team secured six players, including the most expensive buy, New Zealand all-rounder Daryl Mitchell, at Rs 14 crore. CSK’s surprising move was acquiring uncapped Indian batter Sameer Rizvi for Rs 8.4 crore, along with the re-signing of India all-rounder Shardul Thakur, previously with KKR.
