A left-handed wicket-keeper/batsman, he represented Trinidad and Tobago in various underage and schoolboys tournaments, making his national under-19 debut at the 2012 regional tournament at the age of 16.
Pooran made his debut for the West Indies under-19s in October 2013, in a series against the Bangladesh under-19s, and later played in the 2014 Under-19 World Cup.
