“Not an easy wicket out there”: Usman Khawaja in post match presentation of Day 1 of the 3rd Test

India and Australia are facing each other in the 3rd Test of the Border Gavaskar Trophy. Day 1 of the Test went to the visitors as Australia dominated India in all the 3 sessions.

Batting first Team India failed to set a big total as the entire team got restricted to 109 runs in 33.2 overs. The highest run scorer from India’s innings was Virat Kohli who scored 22 runs in 52 balls before giving his wicket to the young Todd Murphy.

Australia came to bat and put on a solid batting show as Usman Khwaja and Marnus Labuschagne took Australia to a 100+ total after Travis Head was dismissed early.

Usman Khwaja, who played a crucial knock of 60 runs off 147 balls, said, “I Played to my plans, tried to score when there was an opportunity and kept out the good balls. Not rocket science, honestly. Not an easy wicket out there. Spin-friendly wicket, it felt tough the whole time and I don’t expect it to get better. I used the sweep intermittently when I needed to today, did the similar thing last week. It’s

just another arsenal in your repertoire. It’s hard enough out there, bowler keeps you guessing, I was trying to keep them guessing too. It was a bit of a cat and mouse.”

Team India got some quick wickets in the 3rd session to restrict Australia’s score at 156/4.

Usman Khwaja: 60(147)

Marnus Labuschagne: 31(91)

Ravindra Jadeja: 4/63

Team India will now try to restrict Australia’s total within 200 runs so that they don’t have many runs in lead when they will come to bat in the 2nd innings.
