According to reports in the Times of India (TOI), 23-year-old opening batsman Prithvi Shaw from the India National Cricket Team is set to join the Northamptonshire County Cricket Club after the conclusion of the Duleep Trophy season.
Prithvi Shaw is currently part of the West Zone Squad in the Duleep Trophy 2023. He will be showcasing his skills when the West Zone faces off against the Central Zone in the first semi-final of the tournament. This semi-final match is scheduled to take place from July 5 to July 8 at the KSCA Cricket Ground in Alur.
In the meantime, a TOI journalist took to Twitter to announce Prithvi Shaw’s participation in county cricket for Northamptonshire. After his stint with the West Zone in the Duleep Trophy 2023, the young cricketer will represent Northamptonshire in county cricket. This will mark his first experience in county cricket.

“Prithvi will be playing in four-day County Championship matches and in the Royal London One-Day Cup (a 50-over tournament). Before that, he will play in the Duleep Trophy semi-final (against the Central Zone) and, if necessary, in the final (July 12-16),” revealed a reliable source to TOI.
Prithvi Shaw has played 5 Tests, 6 ODIs, and 1 T20I for the India National Cricket Team. Currently, he is not included in India’s plans for Tests and ODIs. Although he earned a recall for the T20I series against New Zealand earlier this year, he did not get an opportunity to play. His most recent appearance for India was during the Sri Lanka tour in 2021.
During the IPL 2023, Shaw had a forgettable campaign. He was not a regular member of the Delhi Capitals (DC) playing XI and was eventually dropped from the side due to consecutive poor performances.
Overall, he played only 8 matches and scored 106 runs with an average of 13.25 and a strike rate of 124.71. His highest score of the season was 54, which also happened to be his only half-century in IPL 2023. Considering his underwhelming performance, it is highly unlikely that Shaw will retain his spot in India’s T20I squad for the West Indies series, as there are several other players who have performed well throughout the season and are potential candidates for selection.
